Fisher Bros. House Moving Co., Inc. once again moved the 108 year home of Julia Weber and the last home of her mother, Helen Murphy Weber, wife of the founder of Stockton, California, Captain Charles Weber. Julia's house followed for the most part a typical Victorian style.

Five years after her mother's death (1900), Julia moved the house just north of the Calaveras River to a property on West Lane. Jake Fisher of Fisher Bros. House Moving provided the moving services back then by using three tractors. There it remained for more than a century.

Since the house was on land soon to be developed, the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum bought the house and moved it to its present location at Micke Grove Park. There it will be the entrance to the museum and augment the collection of Weber home furnishings, books, and papers already on exhibit.

The eight mile move on Saturday, June 30, 2001 started at 5 AM and lasted until 12 noon. A semi-truck pulled the 70-ton home on three dollies each with eight wheels, all the way. Spectators were all along the route. Along the way, Fisher Bros. had to go over islands in the street on West Lane to bypass signal lights. Several utilities including PG&E, Pacific Bell, and others raised and dropped power, telephone, and cable lines. When Julia's house arrived at its new location, there was an applause by the crowd. After the move, a fantastic lunch was provided for everyone by the historical society.
